Hallsville defeated the Kilgore Bull Dogs 10-7 (11-8 final) on September 13. Hallsville was down 4-2 with one match of doubles remaining. Junior Cody Blankenship and sophomore Adam Lilly came up in a big way in a third set to make the Bobcats only down 4-3 instead of 5-2. The Bulldogs won the next two matches to go up 6-3 before the Bobcats came storming back. Lead by senior Ben Jones and Sarah Lilly winning their singles matches to make it 6-5 the Bulldogs. Tanner Neely remained undefeated in district play by winning 6-1, 7-5 to make the match even at 6-6. Junior and first year tennis player gave the Bobcats their first lead of the night at 7-6. The Bobcats lost one more match before he guys took over and won the match for the team 10-7. The guys came up in a big way and won 8-1 almost repeating the 9-0 performance that the Bobcats pulled off to knock off the then undefeated Bulldogs in the semifinals. The following week the Bobcats traveled to Pine Tree to play the PT Pirates. Hallsville came out firing taking the lead 6-1 after doubles. Rebekah Hunt and Katrina Schulte win their first doubles match of the season in a third set while the other 2 doubles team Cole Cathey and Thomas Chappell came up with another 3rdset win. Junior Katrina Schulte came up in a big way winning her first singles match of the year and winning the 10thmatch for the Bobcats. The score was 10-4 (13-6 final). This week the Bobcats (4-0) travel to John Tyler (1-3) to play at 3:00. Coach Haney feels that it’s important to keep focus and remember the goal. It’s important to take things one day at a time, one practice at a time, and one match a time. If the Bobcats win out and go 7-0 it will be the first time they will be team tennis district champions.
