Liz Lopez scored Hallsville’s first goal from a Cassie Perry corner kick in the first half.
In the second half, Perry’s corner kick found the back of the net to make it 2-0, before Alexis Smith buried the rebound after a Perry free kick hit the crossbar.

On Tuesday, February 14th, the Bobcat Boys basketball team will be playing the FINAL Hallsville varsity event ever to be played in the Hallsville High School Gymnasium, open since 1978, when the team hosts Nacogdoches. We would like to invite all of you to the game on Tuesday night to honor the historic Bobcat Gym. It will be a "Black Out" night at the gymnasium to honor the closing of this facility, so that means come dressed in all BLACK on Tuesday night!

We also would like to invite you out to honor our seniors as they play their last basketball home game as Hallsville students! It is an extraordinary accomplishment for these seniors to complete their basketball careers, and we will honor them before the game.

We also have plenty of great entertainment planned, as we will select a winner of the chance to win an autographed Dirk Nowitzki photograph. Tickets are $1 apiece, and can be purchased up until halftime. If your name is drawn, you will get the opportunity to shoot a lay-up, a free-throw, a 3-pointer, and a half-court shot all in one minute. If you make all four, you will win the Dirk Nowitzki signed photograph, valued at $125! The HHS cheerleaders will be performing at halftime, and, of course, there will be a short ceremony after the contest is over to honor and celebrate the 34 years that the Bobcat Gym has been hosting HHS events!

It is going to be a great night for the Hallsville community, and we want YOU there! Join us for the "Black Out" of the Bobcat Gym on Tuesday! COME LOUD, BE PROUD, GO BOBCATS!

Hallsville 2nd year Head Coach Paul Haney knew it would be tough to keep the team focused when they were going into the last week against an 0-6 Marshall team.  In order to keep them focused they played 2 matches on Saturday losing to #13 Center and going on to beat Nacogdoches in the afternoon.  This kept them honest as they had to play over the weekend.  In the afternoon match against Nac Coach Haney tried a new line up taking Senior Sarah Lilly out of the mix line up and putting her at #1 doubles with first year player Taylor Stevenson where they lost a close match in their first match together.  Coach Haney knew that against Marshall if he didn't make a change they would probably be up 4-3 in doubles.  Making the changed worked out for the better when Sarah and Taylor won against Marshall while the boys swept doubles easily.  This put them up 4-2 and Marisela Soto and Ben Jones won the mix match.  Being up 5-2 after doubles Coach Haney felt pretty good.  Senior Sarah Lilly won the 10th match in a weird way which left the Bobcats in a shock.  She won the first set and the girl had to go to a choir concert so she forfeited.  This gave the Bobcats a 10-2 win and their first ever district title.  Coach Haney stood there for a few minutes in shock and then continued to coach out the rest of the match.  The boys swept the match 9-0.  Coach Larry Hurta from Marshall told the team that it was the quickest match they had played all year.  Under Coach Haney and Assistant Coach Kevin Ivy the Bobcats posted their best record 8-3 (7-0 district).  The team has made a big turn around as 4 years ago they went 0-7, then 1-6, 4-8 taking 2nd place in district, and now 8-3 (7-0 district) winning their first district title in school history.  The team will compete at regionals for the 2nd year in a row in Grapevine, Texas.

Hallsville defeated the Kilgore Bull Dogs 10-7 (11-8 final) on September 13.  Hallsville was down 4-2 with one match of doubles remaining.  Junior Cody Blankenship and sophomore Adam Lilly came up in a big way in a third set to make the Bobcats only down 4-3 instead of 5-2.  The Bulldogs won the next two matches to go up 6-3 before the Bobcats came storming back.  Lead by senior Ben Jones and Sarah Lilly winning their singles matches to make it 6-5 the Bulldogs.  Tanner Neely remained undefeated in district play by winning 6-1, 7-5 to make the match even at 6-6.  Junior and first year tennis player gave the Bobcats their first lead of the night at 7-6.  The Bobcats lost one more match before he guys took over and won the match for the team 10-7.  The guys came up in a big way and won 8-1 almost repeating the 9-0 performance that the Bobcats pulled off to knock off the then undefeated Bulldogs in the semifinals.  The following week the Bobcats traveled to Pine Tree to play the PT Pirates.  Hallsville came out firing taking the lead 6-1 after doubles.  Rebekah Hunt and Katrina Schulte win their first doubles match of the season in a third set while the other 2 doubles team Cole Cathey and Thomas Chappell came up with another 3rdset win.  Junior Katrina Schulte came up in a big way winning her first singles match of the year and winning the 10thmatch for the Bobcats.  The score was 10-4 (13-6 final).  This week the Bobcats (4-0) travel to John Tyler (1-3) to play at 3:00.  Coach Haney feels that it’s important to keep focus and remember the goal.  It’s important to take things one day at a time, one practice at a time, and one match a time.  If the Bobcats win out and go 7-0 it will be the first time they will be team tennis district champions.

Bobcats edge Whitehouse 10-7 and the final score ended up being 10-9.  Marisela Soto and Taylor Stevenson step up in a big way defeating Brown and Ivy 6-2, 6-2  to make sure that the Bobcats had the lead 4-3 after doubles.  Whitehouse won a few close singles matches and were up 7-6 with 5 matches left.  Tanner Neely and Sarah Lilly lead the way winning at the # 1 spot both in straight sets.  Junior but first year tennis player Taylor Stevenson won her first high school match 6-1, 6-1 cliching the match for the Bobcats. (Now 2-0 in district play)  On Saturday September 10 the Bobcats took on two top 25 schools in 3A Van and then Center.  The Bobcats were without two senior boys in the morning match.  Lead by Sarah Lilly and Tanner Neely they won mixed doubles and both won their singles matches at the #1 spot.  Four matches went to the 3rd set but we were only able to pull one of them out.  Van won 10-5. Coach Haney was pleased with the way his team stepped up without those two seniors and really came to play.  In the afternoon matches the two seniors came back from taking the ACT.  We were at full strength against #21 Center.  Center was 5-2 after doubles.  Tanner Neely fought hard against Senior Seth Grant but fell short 7-6, 6-4.  Sarah Lilly and Thomas Chappell both won in singles and doubles.  Sarah Lilly was the only one to go undefeated on the weekend going 4-0.   "We knew going into these matches that Van and Center would be a tough test for us but we knew we needed to get ready for Kilgore by playing this weekend." The Bobcats play Kilgore in a rematch of the district semifinals last year on Tuesday September 13 at 4 PM.  The match is in Kilgore.

David L. Allen, D.D.S in Hallsville made custom fit sports mouth guards for the varsity football team this year.  The mouthpiece is made of a dual laminate material, the mouth guard is worn to protect the teeth and gum tissues by absorbing the forces generated by traumatic blows during sports activities. Because they were custom made for each player, the appliance provides fuller coverage and fits much more snugly against the teeth. This provides greater ability to absorb shock, while allowing more comfort for the players.

The Hallsville Bobcats (24-6) advance to the Class 4A Area Championship game after defeating Denison in the first round. The Bobcats will play Forney Jackrabbits (21-13) in game 1 to be held in Forney Thursday, May 12 at 7:00 p.m. Game 2 is scheduled in Hallsville at 1:00 p.m. with game 3 to follow if needed

from Longview News Journal, Gabriel Brooks

HALLSVILLE — Four consecutive one-out hits in the first inning were a harbinger for Hallsville’s lineup Saturday afternoon as the Bobcats produced six extra-base hits and scored eight fourth-inning runs to eliminate Denison 13-3 in a Class 4A Region II bi-district baseball series.

Hallsville (24-6), which won the series 2-0 thanks to a 9-5 Game 1 win, advances to a Region II area series against Forney. Game 1 is 7 p.m. Thursday at Forney (21-13). Game 2 is 1 p.m. Saturday at Hallsville (Game 3 to follow, if necessary).

The top five hitters in Hallsville’s lineup had two hits apiece as the Bobcats amassed 12 total. Ronnie Gideon was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, including a two-run, line-drive home run — his 10th of the year — he sent to left-center field in the bottom of the fourth. Brandon Denton flexed his muscles in the first when he lifted an opposite-field, three-run homer that carried over the right-field wall and put the Bobcats up 4-1. Denton was 2-for-4 and scored twice, while leadoff hitter J.C. Daily went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.

Justin Wingfield was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs, and Blaise Warrick went 2-for-3 with a double.

“As long as it wasn’t one of those games where it was just right at people, I thought we could scored some runs, and it kind of paid off that way today,” said Hallsville head coach Scott Mitchell. “We’ve hit well the entire year. This is the best offensive group I’ve ever had, and they go up there expecting to hit.”

Hallsville also got production from the latter portion of its lineup. Nick Hosey walked twice, Collin Bradley singled and scored, Adam McKey doubled and scored and Pierce Pipak had two walks, an RBI and a run.

Hallsville won the game when Gideon scored on a two-out wild pitch to Nick Hosey to enact the 10-run rule in the bottom of the fifth.

Hallsville’s Connor Reich pitched all five innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits. He struck out four and walked five.

Mitchell said Hallsville’s defense, which committed a lone first-inning error, has played well all season. Denton, who plays third base, made a diving stab to his left before jumping to his feet and firing a one-hopper to first for a highlight-reel play in the top of the fifth. Warrick, Hallsville’s first baseman, made a couple of nice digs to ensure groundouts.

“We play good defense, too. I think that’s been the part that’s been overshadowed,” Mitchell said. “Yeah, we score runs, but we play good defense. I was really encouraged by that.”

Hallsville led 4-1 after an inning and 4-2 entering the bottom of the fourth, when the Bobcats bombed three Denison pitchers for eight runs on five hits and five walks. Wingfield and Daily each had a two-run double to accompany Gideon’s two-run missile to left-center.

Leadoff hitter Kaleb Thomas and cleanup hitter Connor Counce had two hits apiece to account for Denison’s four. Thomas singled twice, drove in a run, scored once and walked, while Counce had a fifth-inning RBI double that hit near the “385” marker close to the top of the center-field wall.

Starting pitcher Ryan Greenwood allowed eight runs on nine hits and an error while walking three in three-plus innings for Denison (13-19). Tylor McLaren faced four batters, but did not retire any before Elder Quinones recorded all three outs in the fourth and two outs in the fifth prior to Gideon’s game-ending run.
