CONCUSSION MANAGEMENT - RETURN TO PLAY PROTOCOL

The University Interscholastic League along with the Texas Education Agency has adopted a mandatory concussion management return to play protocol for all sports under the direction of the Texas Education Code Section 38.157 © . This protocol requires each school district to establish a Concussion Oversight Team to adopt the concussion management return to play protocol. The U.I.L. allows each district to choose the option of using the U.I.L. Medical Advisory Team as the concussion oversight team and adopt the policy for concussion management. The Hallsville ISD Athletic Department has chosen to adopt this policy. One of the requirements of this policy is provide notification of the policy to the parents of athletes. Information is available at www.uiltexas.org/files/athletics

From the Coaches

The athletic physical is a requirement mandated by the University Interscholastic League.  The rule states that all athletes must complete and pass an athletic physical administered by a licensed physician prior to beginning athletic competition their 7th, 9th, and 11th grade years in school.

They must complete a physical if they have a significant change in their medical history during the remaining years of athletic competition after the 7th, 9th, and 11th grade years. Such changes are serious injury, illness lasting more than a week, hospitalization for any reason, currently receiving treatment by a licensed physician for any reason, surgery, etc. Also if you or your child answers yes to questions 1-6 on the medical history a new physical will be required.
